By using frosted glass sliding doors, you can close them whenever you like whilst still letting light through.

Let the outside into your bedroom

Are windows too dull for your bedroom? Would you like something a bit more modern? Then why settle for a window when you can replace an entire wall of your bedroom with a magnificent sliding door? Try to imagine waking up every morning, opening your curtains and letting the light flood in through the glass panels. Even when it’s closed, the sliding doors provide you with a glorious view of the outside world.

Stained glass

Are you not in a position to install a full sliding glass wall, but still want a door that opens onto a balcony? Then why not install a stained glass door? Stained glass facing outside will produce stunning patterns into your bedroom.

Creating a space to work

Do you work at home? If so, you could benefit from having an area that is easily shut off from the rest of the house whilst you’re working, but still feels very spacious and contemporary.

Choosing a Sliding Wardrobe to Suit Your Home

In just 5 simple steps, Sliding Robes Direct are going identify the best way to choose a sliding wardrobe that will accommodate to your needs. We have tried to make this guide simple and effective so that choosing your perfect wardrobe is as easy as possible. By using these 5 helpful steps, Sliding Robes Direct hope that choosing your sliding wardrobe is straightforward and hassle free. Let’s see how it goes!

1. Measure the Space in Your Room

It is extremely important to measure the space available for your sliding wardrobe. In order to utilise the space efficiently, measure the exact area you will be using in order to get a clear indication of the size of your sliding wardrobe.

2. Identify Your Needs

Before you go full steam ahead into purchasing your wardrobe, take some time to identify what you expect from your wardrobe. Will it be storing just clothes? Or will there be clothes rails, shoe racks and draws too? The purpose of a sliding wardrobe is down to the individual, so it is important to understand what your needs are. Prior to your wardrobe design, it’s best to choose the storage space you require. This will make designing your wardrobe a lot easier and less time consuming.

3. Consider the Style

Your wardrobe will be a permanent and fixed feature of your room, so it is worth investing a bit of time in picking out a style and colours that will be best suited and complementive to the room. Whether this be the design of the door, type of wood/glass or choosing to have mirrored doors. These are all important factors of your sliding wardrobe so it is definitely worth taking the time to pick out a style that you love, rather than making a rushed decision that you may regret.

How to Measure up

Measuring Up for Standard Size Sliding Doors

Sliding Robes Direct have put together some useful information in the effort to help with measuring up for standard size doors. It can get frustrating trying to measure or build things from scratch with complex instructions. This is why Sliding Robes Direct have gone to the effort of writing out our instructions to be short, simple and most importantly understandable. Measuring up your standard size sliding door can be carried out in 4 simple and helpful steps:

1. How to Measure Up

Start by measuring the open space you have. All of our doors fit to a maximum height of 2260mm and with a maximum opening width of 3607mm. Sliding Robes Direct doors are available in 3 widths: 610mm, 762mm, 914mm.
NOTE: Not all of our doors are available in all 3 widths, please be sure you acknowledge this by selecting your door first before you begin measuring up.
Should there be a difference in the height measurements for the height of A, B, or C, this would mean that your ceiling and floor are not parallel. The track your sliding wardrobe runs on allows up to 25mm of difference. But, if the difference of your heights should exceed this, your ceiling walls may need adjustments.

2. Select and Fit the Storage System

Start by measuring up your internal space. For example, when having the Aura Storage System, you can decide between the 550mm or the 900mm wide shelves or drawer units. This can affect your choice of door. The size of your storage depends on the allocated area available to have your sliding wardrobe installed. It can help to lay all of your components out to make sure they will all fit in your space. All of our storage solution components come with detailed instructions, should you need further information to help assemble your sliding wardrobe.

3. Build the Opening For Your Doors

All of our doors have been made to fit the standard opening height, which is 2260mm (including the track). Ceilings that are higher than this can be reduced by using spacer blocks or opening height reducers.

4. Calculate Your Door Requirements

The number of doors you require, depends on the opening width. Below is our calculations to help with any additional information on your door sizes. To start, measure the opening width, then from there you will see the number of doors which are required and the track set.

Sliding Wardrobes - Installation

Sliding wardrobes are a very practical solution that will offer you a lot more space in your bedroom. They are not expensive to purchase, and it is possible to install them yourself which makes them a very cost effective option. If you are installing them yourself there are five key parts of the installation process that you will need to get right which Sliding Robes Direct have looked into below:

1. Get The Right Measurements. It is important that the measurements for the doors are correct at this stage to avoid problems later on. It may be possible for you to purchase doors that have already been made as long as the measurements are correct, and when you know what the measurements are you will know whether the doors you are looking at are suitable.

2. Paint The Doors If Required. You may have already purchased the doors for your wardrobe in the colour that you want, but if not painting them should be a relatively easy job. It is much easier to paint the doors before they are installed and repaint any areas that do become damaged.

3. Remove Old Doors If Necessary. If you are simply replacing the doors of sliding wardrobes, then the old doors will need to be removed. They can often be lifted out of the tracks when the locking switch has been released. The old tracks will also need to be removed as the new doors may not fit correctly.

4. Cut The New Tracks To Size And Install. If you have existing tracks, then they can be used to measure the length of the new tracks. The tracks will usually have to be cut to size and a small hacksaw will often be the best tool to use for this job. Once the tracks have been cut to size then they can be attached to the doorway using holes that should be in place already for screws to be placed through. Always ensure that the surface is level before the tracks are installed.

5. The New Doors Are Ready To Be Installed. Once the tracks are in place, then the doors can be installed by just sliding them into place. You will need to make sure that the locking switch is open before the doors are installed, and once they are in place the switch can be closed again. The doors can then be checked to make sure that they close properly, and if necessary then any minor adjustments can be made.

Whatever look you are trying to achieve, Sliding Robes can assist you along the way, giving advice and guidance where possible. We offer a wide range of sliding wardrobe options, which you can view by heading over to our website and selecting an option to suit!

With standard size and made to measure options available, the power is definitely in your hands!

What to Consider When You Buy Sliding Wardrobe Doors

There are a few things to consider before purchasing sliding wardrobe doors. Having worked in the industry for many years, and advising hundreds of people on the best course of action to take, Sliding Robes Direct have the skills and experience to help you moving forward. Take the time to read our latest edition which looks at 3 different elements relating to sliding doors, and hopefully this will give you all the information you need to make an informed decision...

Space

This is often overlooked when buying and installing new sliding wardrobe doors. If you don’t have any idea of the wardrobe doors’ sizing to correctly fit your individual bedroom, you could be on the wrong course and could very well succeed in running out of room for your door installation. Taking stock of how much room you have available can help you to accurately predict and make your choice of how many sliding doors you need plus their overall shape and size.

Accessibility

Another important aspect that bears considering prior to purchasing your sliding wardrobe doors is accessibility. You should first consider how you wish the storage to function and what you're planning to utilize your wardrobe for. It should be noted here that many of the finest wardrobe door products offer storage that is easily accessible. Take into consideration if you want to have wire baskets, pullout rails, drawing units, or shelves. Also consider whether you want those shelves beside the sliding doors, above or below in your wardrobe. Don’t forget to also take into consideration how close any of these should be in relationship to the doors and the ease of reaching items without obstruction.

Design

It is also very important to consider the look and feel that you desire in your sliding doors. This is where design comes into play. You could go for a number of made-to-measure wardrobes. Some have mirrored doors and many are quite unique when it comes to design and shape. Colour can be equally important, especially since there a numerous available colours for choosing from. Sometimes this myriad of choices can get confusing for some people. But, remember that there are actually only three major colour categories of wardrobe panels that you have to choose from, so the choice simply depends upon the overall theme that exists in your office, bedroom or living room along with your personal taste. You could choose either a bold or a neutral wardrobe panel. On the other hand, if the choice of just one colour seems boring to you, you could break up the colours you choose into blocks for a more exciting look.

Make A Small Bedroom Look Bigger

Sliding Robes are experts when it comes to all things home and interior design related. Although we specialise in Sliding Wardrobe Doors, it doesn't mean our knowledge is restricted to just this, and with that being said, we'd like to give you a broader insight into the world of interior design whenever we get time to share our views with you.
Below we have listed a few tips to making small bedrooms appear bigger, which may seem impossible at first but once you try it yourself, you will soon see the light!

Tips for Making Small Bedrooms Appear Bigger

When you have a small bedroom it is easy to feel like you do not have the space to allow you to do everything with the room that you would want. However, by following these simple tips, you can create much more space than you thought was possible in even the smallest of bedrooms.

Think Carefully About Colours

Choosing a neutral colour for your bedroom would make the room seem brighter, and therefore larger, but it may not give you the type of vibrant look that you want for your bedroom.

If you decide to be adventurous and choose a bright, bold colour then this can provide your room with a real focal point that you will instantly be drawn to as soon as you enter the room. Using contrasting colour schemes can enhance the appearance of the main colour that is used in the room.

In order to make the room seem lighter, it is a good idea to break up big blocks of colour on the walls with some form of decoration, such as a canvas or poster.

Make Use Of Hidden Storage

When you have a small bedroom, it may be difficult to fit in as much storage space as you need. Bedrooms tend to be rooms that become quite cluttered anyway and this problem becomes worse when you only have limited space to work with.

There are a number of storage options that are available to you, even if you have limited space. One of the most important things that you need to look for is storage solutions that won't take up any more floor space than is absolutely necessary, especially if you already have a wardrobe and chest of drawers in the room.

One way to make more space is to install sliding wardrobes into your bedroom. As these wardrobes fit into your existing wall space, they free up floor space that would be taken up by a traditional wardrobe. They can also add a touch of style to the room.

Another option is to purchase a bed that has storage space underneath it. This type of bed can usually be lifted up easily for you to access the items that you have stored there. If you don't want to have to do this too often then you could use the space for things that you don't need access to every day.

Use Shelving Wisely

Shelving can be an excellent storage solution in rooms that do not have a lot of floor space. For example, there may not be room for a bookcase, but books can be placed on shelves. Shelving also has the advantage of being a useful feature of the room that can help break up plain walls.

4 Simple Steps for Loft Conversion

As home improvement enthusiasts we are regularly giving you information about wardrobes, which are our specialty of course. But with our experience in the industry and our passion for improving homes, we thought why not give you some tips relating to other forms of home improvement. In this case, loft conversions.

Converting your loft is probably one of the most time consuming and complex jobs that you take on when you are improving your home. However, there are a number of reasons why you might choose to take this job on. It can add value to your home if you are planning to sell soon and it can provide extra space as you are effectively adding another room to your home. They are four key steps that you will need to make sure are carried out correctly when you are carrying out a loft conversion.

Flooring

You will need to ensure that your flooring is strong enough to withstand the increased use that the loft will get when it has been converted. There are a few methods for doing this, such as fitting large wooden boards. However, in order to create a solid floor that is going to last, it is floorboards that are really needed.

I
nsulation

Specialist insulation boards are available that have been specifically designed for use in lofts. These boards can fit in between the beams easily, and they are straightforward to fit as they just slide in.

Plaster Boards

Once the insulation boards have been fitted, then the next step is to put the plasterboard in place. The gaps between the beams will need to be measured first as you will need to cut the plasterboard to fill these gaps. An electric saw is a good tool to use for this task. It is also important to ensure that the screws that you use to secure the plasterboard in place are the right size, and you need to leave a gap where the wiring can be run from downstairs if this is necessary. You may require some help from another person for this aspect of the conversion.

Plastering

The plastering of the loft is something that can be done yourself, but plastering can be a difficult job and you may want to get a professional plasterer in to do this work for you. If you do decide to do the work yourself then only a thin layer of plaster is needed, but it will need to cover all the plasterboard that you have put up, and special care is needed around the joints.
You do not usually need planning permission to carry out a loft conversion, although it is worth checking with your local council what their policy is before you begin work. It may be that the work will need to be inspected after it has been completed.

Quick and Easy Design Tips to Spruce up your Bedroom

As experts in the field of design and installation, Sliding Robes are here to give you advice and tips where possible in regards to home improvements.

With years of experience working in the field, we understand more than anyone how difficult it can be for some people to get into the DIY spirit, or to know how to actually do some things… We’ve come across plenty of DIY-aphobes recently and thought maybe it’s about time to give you some advice and tips to help you give your bedroom that much needed refreshment.

...but where do you start?

A lot of people admit they are too scared to take that first step and jump feet first into the decorating pond. Some say they don’t know what they are doing, others say they are scared they will mess things up, but with our simple advice, you could take giant leaps forward in creating a bedroom look that you fall in love with!

With so many ideas and inspirations out there, all you need to do is a little bit of research and find out what you want to achieve. Having a clear idea in your head is the first step in making your bedroom somewhere that you love to be.

Imagine a blank canvas… pure white, and not even a speck of dust causing disruption to your furniture space. Now start with the bigger pieces of furniture like your bed, your wardrobe, your chest of drawers maybe? Are these where you want them to be? If they are, then you can now begin to think about paints, fabrics, and possibly even flooring. Often, a lick of paint and a new set of curtains can be enough to give your bedroom that rejuvenation it needs!

If you are struggling for ideas, why not ask others for their input? Or how about creating a mood board with all your thoughts about colours and fabrics on? This can be a big help in terms of deciding how you want your bedroom to look!

Having all your ideas in one place and coming up with a final concept in key.. If you try to include too many elements, you may end up with a room that looks like the periodic table.. or Joseph and his technicolour dream coat… and nobody wants that… OUCH!

So, how do you decorate your room?

Once your ideas are all in place, you need to fill any cracks and holes with filler, sand the surface down, and make sure your walls are as smooth as they can be.. the same applies to wallpaper if you plan to strip this and use paint instead. An even surface is vital if you are to achieve the desired effect in the long run.

Before you start decorating, clear your room of all furniture, leaving yourself with an empty space to work with.. remember that blank canvas?
